We affirm our tradition of catholic education as a member of the Archdiocese of New York. As an academic institution, ASD provides educational instruction from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade Eight in conjunction with the New York State academic guidelines. The school's faculty is comprised of fully certified and professional educators who deeply care for students and partner with parents.
Through a collaborative learning environment, ASD strives to instill in each of the students the religious and moral values of a Catholic Christian environment - community, service, reverence and leadership. We feel that these values are the foundation for academic growth and success.
The Academy of St. Dorothy is located on a beautiful, vast, 13-acre campus, featuring sports fields, a large gymnasium, a dedicated Pre-Kindergarten building, playground, cafeteria and auditorium. It is easily accessible by public transportation for families who commute.
To expand their understanding of the Christian call to service, to strengthen the students' Catholic identity and to give back to the community in which we live, the Academy of St. Dorothy has a service hours requirement to its curriculum. The students thoroughly enjoy these opportunities and learn a great deal from these expereinces.
The number of hours required per year is:
Pre-Kindergarten – Kindergarten | 1 hour |
Grades 1 – 2 | 2 hours |
Grades 3 – 4 | 4 hours |
Grades 5 – 6 | 6 hours |
Grades 7 – 8 | 10 hours |
Service projects are those actions that make a difference in people’s lives. They can be as simple as running an errand for a friend or as complex as working in the community to address a quality of life issue (e.g. graffiti, littering). Service projects are not tasks that a student is already expected to do at home such as cleaning a room.
