Happy February!
Grades 6-8 have just completed their first Author Study Project. Students worked hard the first semester reading at least 2 books from an author of their choice (Grades 6 chose between Rebecca Stead or Mike Lupica, Grade 7 chose between Kwame Alexander or Sharon Draper, and Grade 8 chose between J.R.R. Tolkein and Agatha Christie). The students did an amazing job at comparing and contrasting the two works and delving into the authors’ lives. We even got a shoutout on our school Instagram page from Rebecca Stead herself!
This month’s value is integrity. In Grade 6, we will discuss what it means to be a person of integrity, how to live out this value every day, and how to encourage others to do the same.
This month in ELA, Grade 6 will continue with Unit 3- Modern Technology. We will build up our argumentative writing skills, and perhaps even throw in a debate.
In Grade 7, we will continue reading The Outsiders. We will focus on character development, irony, foreshadowing, and perhaps even comparing and contrasting film vs. text.
In Grade 8, we will start a new unit- What Matters. We will read sample texts from authors on current topics that impact our society, and choose topics that matter most to us to inform others about.
We will be sure to keep busy this short month!
