The children have had a wonderful first month of Kindergarten. They have made new friends and learned many new routines. The children met their 8th Grade buddies. They worked together on September 11th to tie patriotic ribbons on our school fence. The children attended their first school liturgy together. They are beginning to learn many new prayers. They learned about the many gifts God has given us and enjoyed working on a project about God's Creations. The children learned to identify the characters and setting of a story. They are learning to retell the main parts of stories and to answer higher level questions. They learned to compare and look for similarities and differences between two different stories. In Math, the children learned to count and compare groups of objects to five. They enjoyed learning how to use a Rekenrek. In Science, the children learned what a scientist does. They identified tools that a scientist uses. They enjoyed experimenting mixing colored water to make new colors. They learned about the lifecycle of an apple tree. They predicted whether apples would float and then experimented floating apples. They enjoyed cooking applesauce and tasting it. In Social Studies the children listened to many stories about what makes people unique. They created "All About Me" booklets about themselves.
