Religion: The children listened to the story of Creation. They created and illustrated a Creation book. As a class, we shared the people whom we are most grateful for. The children learned God gave us all special talents and gifts and He will always love us.
Reading: The children read the story Stellaluna written by Janell Cannon. They completed a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting bats and birds. The students also read the story Dragons and Giants written by Arnold Lobell. This month the children focused on identifying story elements such as characters, setting, problems, solutions and story events. The students also focused on punctuation skills and determining what is a complete sentence and an incomplete sentence.
Math: The children worked on solving addition and subtraction equations to ten with part, part whole mats, ten frames, number lines, and number bonds.
Social Studies: The children shared their All About Me Posters with their classmates. We learned about the activities our classmates enjoy doing at school, at home, and in the community. The students complimented their posters and asked questions to further learn about each other.
Science: As a class, we read the story The Three Little Pigs and The True story of the Three Little Pigs, written by Jon Scieszka. We compared and contrasted the story elements of each book. The students planned and constructed a house using Q-tips, toothpicks, sticks, Dots, and playdough. After the project was completed the big bad wolf attempted to blow down each house. It was a fun project that the whole class enjoyed.
