or week
I am happy to welcome you to the 2020-2021 school year at ASD! Looking back on my previous years here, I am so excited and grateful for a fesh start this September. This year will be full of challenges, growth, and, of course, fun! Get ready to hit the ground running. This month, students can look forward to learning new classroom practices, including using their own Chromebooks and Pearson Realize, as well as new ideas, facts, and experiences. Please check back in later this month to hear all we learned about in ELA and religion, as well as to hear directly from our students on what they took away from all this month's work!
Please see below some helpful documents to help get your year started off right!

Welcome to the Academy of St. Dorothy website! This is where we keep you all updated on everything happening in the school! This week of school has gone splendidly even with all the changes. We have done lots of fun activities for each subject such as poems, math problems, science, and we are even learning geography. Now, let's talk about some of the changes. We get to bring our Chromebooks to school which is a big change. One other change is eating in the classroom and mask breaks. Another change is we have to wear a mask to school all day long and stay 6 feet apart. However, our teachers are trying to give us the best year possible. They are trying to make it normal like every year, but since we have to wear masks, that presents a challenge for them. We hope you enjoyed this issue of the class news- have a great day!

This past week in Religion we have learned a lot. We have been learning about the Value: Cooperation, we also had a Religion test for our last chapter. We have learned about how to say no and if we are uncomfortable to speak up and be assertive. We also learned the difference between being aggressive and being assertive. Lastly, we learned about bullying and about not being a bystander. This week in math we have mostly reviewed things we have learned last year. We have finished reviewing multiplication and division with decimals and started a new lesson. We started reviewing multiplying fractions with whole numbers and mixed numbers. Also, we completed a few pages in our textbooks and worked on a website called GeoGebra. This past week we have done a lot of poetry from the memoir Brown Girl Dreaming. This is a memoir based on Jacqueline Woodson’s childhood. There are poems such as “brooklyn rain,” “wishes,” “gifted,” “believing,” “uncle robert”. We learned a few of Jacqueline’s techniques. She does many things that other poets do not normally do. This week in science we have learned about molecules, atoms, substances, and compounds. We also did a project about molecules. We learned the difference between a chemical bond and a chemical mixture. This week in Social Studies we have learned a lot. We have learned about Mary and Louis Leaky. We also learned about early humans, In conclusion, this week has been full of work and as much as we all love it we all need a little break.
